Learn how to turn old clothes & sheets into yarn for making rugs by hand.

Description

This workshop is for those of us who have strong feelings and want to release them from your body through ripping apart fabric and then manipulating that raw material into something new. We will share stories with each other to free our bodies of the stress that if left to fester, will wreak havoc on our health.

  • We will be learning how to make what you might know as a "toothbrush rug" or "Amish rug". We will be using affordable materials to create simple tools to help us basically crochet the yarns we've just made using our hands.
  • There will be music playing through the speakers, group screaming exercise (very easy and not scary), and ideally some laughter or tears or BOTH! Don't worry, I'll also bring the tissues.

Feel free to bring with you tshirts with memories that you would like to let go of, flat & fitted sheets from past lives who's ghosts may still haunt, and that plastic bag full of other plastic bags that you can't seem to get rid of. If you have none of these items, bring your self and we will have materials to use.

  • I'm not a licensed therapist or doctor, so this group is NOT meant to advise life actions or actionable steps toward recovery. This workshop could (likely will) have sensitive topics that are triggers for others, so please be mindful of this possibility and your own limitations. It's very possible that we will have opposing opinions and my attempt in creating this space is that we will listen with open hearts. I'm going to advise that we don't use names of others that aren't present in the group so as to maintain anonymity. The goal is to provide a safe space to feel supported by community, release unwanted feelings from the body, and use this released energy to fuel the creation of something newly useable in your life. The actions of using our hands will also naturally release dopamine in your brain & body! Yay for healthy highs!

This workshop is open to all ages, however minors MUST BE joined by their parent or legal guardian due to the sensative nature of topics that could be shared. For everyone's legal safety, we're gonna sign waivers to share this information openly with each other. There are no confidentiality agreements because this is not a licensed operation and this is not therapy. This is basically a knitting circle where we can air our gripes/frustrations about life and build trust with each other. Feel free to bring snacks and drinks to keep you satisfied. I can't wait to see you there!
